It has come to my attention that coaches are more and more frequently being asked to provide lifts for players. For Insurance & Child Protection reasons, we are not allowed to transport players from and to matches. On occassion, we may be able to offer help as a friend but not as a coach, but recently we have been put in awkward situations where our own families have been asked to give up their seat in a car so that other players families' can attend games. This is not fair and not realistic. We all undertake our roles as coaches as a hobby and voluntarily. We understand that once in a while it may be difficult to get your child to a game, but in this instance your first port of call should be another parent or friend, and only a coach or manager as a last resort. You wouldn't ask a teacher to give your child a lift home from school. Certainly, we would not expect you to ask for a lift for your child when you yourself have already acquired a seat in a car to get to a game. Whilst we seek to have a full squad at every match, it is your own responsibility and not that of the coaches to get players to and from matches. I hope this clarifies the situation for those unsure, and hope that you will respect that we give our free time voluntarily, and enjoy spending this time with our families. Also, may I suggest the offer of a petrol donation should someone be good enough to provide a lift for you. If you're really stuck, let us know. Thanks. |
