| U10 v Newton '66 (Away) |
|
Our trip to the league leaders saw us arrive at Coach Road with just our starting 7 players. Ben captained the side that kicked off and through him we were unlucky not to take an immediate lead, just firing wide before '66 got going. An outstanding first half from Jack and Will meant that at times we were controlling the game and had the home team on the back foot, and when they did get a break, found 'keeper Harry in good form. Ben came close again, as did Jack from outside the area, but two good goals from the league leaders put them slightly undeservedly ahead at the break. With no personnel changes to make, Liverton re-shaped for the second half, Ben slotting into the back row, and Kiernan moving up front with Will. Harry C and Jack controlled the midfield well for the opening part of the second half, and as the ball flashed across the area, Kiernan was unlucky not to be able to divert it into the goal. Mark, doing a great job at the back, nearly set up a goal for us with a long ball forward that Will raced onto, holding off the '66 defender but only finding the side netting. It was '66 who scored the final goal of the game though, despite great battling from our defence and midfield, to end the match 3-0, certainly not the result the home side would have been looking for or expecting. Superb effort boys, well done!
Final Score: Newton '66 3 Liverton United 0. Goals: None. Man of the Match: Jack. |
