U10 v Dawlish United (Home)

With a squad size drastically reduced by players being away, some without notice, the seven that we had took to the field at Halford hoping to avenge our close away defeat earlier in the season. After Ben led the players out, disaster struck early on, Dawlish taking a two goal lead almost immediately.

Despite having better possesion as the half continued, the Liverton players were unable to get a clear chance on goal, and the strength of the visitors was starting to tell when they went three-up with a powerful run and shot. Despite this, Aaron and George were having a solid game in midfield, working hard to win the ball and feed Ben and Kiernan going forward. At the back, Harry C and Mark were busy, and dealt well with the mounting pressure confidently, whilst Harry L was doing everything he could to stop the Dawlish total mounting. They managed three more goals, and then an outstanding move in which Harry C's upfield ball was picked up by Kiernan, who one-two'd with Ben and then played a great ball across for George to drive home from close range. The half drew to an end, with fluid and with some much needed respite being given, we pushed Harry C forward and Kiernan dropped alongside Mark at the back. Dawlish again struck twice early on, Harry L unlucky to concede an effort from a Dawlish shot diverted in off a defender.

But as is our way, the Liverton boys battled back, and some outstanding passing football saw Ben go close, and then another great ball from George played Ben in, past the visitors defence and he rifled home. Dawlish weren't going to stop pushing though, and they extended their lead further with a long ball into the box that was muscled in by the their striker. Liverton legs started to tire, but Ben, still full of running, made another darting run down the left and into the box, and was barged over by the Dawlish defender, the referee awarding us a penalty. Ben recovered to take it, and scored his second goal of the game with a powerfully struck penalty.

Liverton pushed forward with renewed energy, but Dawlish rounded the game off with a final goal, Harry L unlucky again not to keep out a good strike.

Fianl Score: Liverton United 3 Dawlish United 11. Goals: George (1), Ben (2). Man of the Match: George.
