| U10 v Broadmeadow (AWAY) PLATE |
|
Our first of three consecutive games against Broadmeadow found us visiting their small pitch at Bishopsteignton in the Pioneer Plate. With a strong looking side, we started the game, Captain Mark electing to change ends to avoid the glare from the November sun. The match immediately looked like it would prove to be a good tussle, which quickly turned into a midfield battle and both teams came close to breaking the deadlock early on, our chances falling to Ben, Harry C and Toby, who were unlucky not to score. Despite defending well for much of the half, we were unable to turn the possession that we had into goalscoring opportunities and as the half wore on, 'keeper Harry L was called on more and more and kept the game level with some outstanding stops as Broadmeadow forced the game towards our goal. Just about with the run of play, the home side squeezed in front with a fine finish from a corner on the left, and looked to add to it with the last few minutes of the half remaining. With the score at 1-0 going into the second period, Broadmeadow came out faster and stronger than us and added to their lead shortly after, a good finish from the right hand side. And from a long shot, an awkward bounce for Harry L saw the ball spin over the line for their third with about ten minutes remaining. Liverton pushed forward searching for a way back into the game, and despite reshuffling, were again beaten to the ball in midfield as Broadmeadow effectively sealed the game with a fourth five minutes from time. A game that really could have gone either way, where we weren't at our sharpest but despite missing out on a chance of cup glory this year, we look forward to the next two weeks' games and a real chance of picking up our first league points. Fianl Score: Broadmeadow 4 Liverton United 0. Goals: None. Man of the Match: Harry L. |
